Need independent access control for two pedestrian lanes, a specific finish or reader integration? Share your passage requirements with MK GateTech to discuss the available configuration options for your TBT 4220.
The TBT 4220 is designed to operate with external access control systems, allowing pedestrian access through its two passage lanes to be controlled independently.
The specified access control interface includes dry contact, 12 VDC and 24 VDC connections. A dry contact provides a switching signal from external equipment. The connection method should be selected according to the electrical requirements of the turnstile and the connected controller.
Standard control provisions include:
DIP-switch direction control for configuring the operating direction.
Directional dry contact output for signalling to connected equipment.
Emergency input for connection to an external emergency control arrangement.
Mounting provisions are available for card readers or fingerprint readers. These allow the turnstile to be incorporated into an identification and access authorisation system.
Reader equipment, controller compatibility and the scope of integration should be defined for the project.
An external remote control option is available for operating the turnstile remotely.
For larger installations, optional advanced PC control supports centralized control of up to 256 turnstiles. Optional serial communication is available through RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 interfaces.
The weight detection platform provides weight-based passage verification, with alarm or PC notification. The required coverage of the two passage lanes should be confirmed when specifying this option.
A separate floor-mounted token unit is available in powder-coated steel or AISI 304 stainless steel, with an approximate capacity of 7,000 tokens.
The specified tokens measure Ø25 × 2 mm and can be supplied with optional custom markings.
Optional equipment and the final integration scope should be confirmed when requesting a quotation.
The TBT 4220 is available in three construction options, allowing material selection to be discussed according to the installation environment and project specification.
Powder-coated steel
A steel construction with a powder-coated finish. The required colour and finish can be discussed when specifying the product.
AISI 304 stainless steel
A stainless steel construction using AISI 304 material for projects specifying this grade.
Mixed construction
Stainless steel rotors with the remaining structural components finished with an electrostatically applied, oven-cured powder coating.
When requesting a quotation, indicate the preferred construction option, installation environment and any specific finish requirements.
Each passage lane has an independently operated four-arm rotor mechanism and supports bidirectional passage control. This allows access through each lane to be controlled separately according to the site’s requirements.
Each four-arm rotor divides a complete revolution into four 90° passage cycles. Solenoid locking at each 90° position controls the rotor between successive passages.
The anti-backtracking mechanism prevents reverse rotation after the rotor has moved through 30°. This helps maintain the intended direction once a passage cycle is underway.
Hydraulic shock absorbers control rotor movement during operation. Damping reduces abrupt movement and supports a smoother transition between locking positions.
Flush-mounted LED indicators communicate the passage direction to users. An integrated buzzer provides audible notification as part of the turnstile’s signalling system.
In the event of a power failure or activation of the emergency input, the rotors are released to allow free passage through both lanes in both directions. The emergency input allows connection to an external emergency control system.
The full-height structure remains physically in place; free passage refers to the unlocked rotation of the rotors.
The specified operating temperature range and IP54 protection class should be considered when selecting the installation location. Site conditions and project requirements should be reviewed before the final configuration is confirmed.
The TBT 4220 combines mains-powered electromechanical operation with a rated throughput of up to 30 persons per minute per lane. Actual pedestrian flow depends on the identification process, access control settings and user behaviour.

Designed for industrial facilities, stadiums and restricted-access areas, the TBT 4220 combines two controlled pedestrian passages within one full-height structure. Interfaces for external access control systems allow passage authorisation for each lane to be managed according to the site’s requirements.
A robust, impact-resistant construction and two bearing-supported rotor mechanisms support frequent operation. Concealed base bearings form part of the rotor support assemblies.
The bearing-supported mechanisms are designed to reduce resistance within the moving assemblies. The product datasheet specifies approximately 60% less mechanical friction and approximately 70% longer service life.
Hydraulic damping supports smooth, quiet rotor movement during each passage cycle. The four-arm rotors move between 90° locking positions, with anti-backtracking protection to prevent reverse rotation once the passage cycle has progressed.
The turnstile provides interfaces for connection to external access control equipment. Optional mounting provisions for card readers or fingerprint readers allow the two passage lanes to be incorporated into the project’s identification and authorisation system.
TBT 4220
The TBT 4220 is a double-lane, full-height turnstile with two independently operated four-arm rotors for intensive pedestrian access control. Each lane supports bidirectional electromechanical operation with a 90° passage cycle and hydraulic damping.
